About Dermatology Matters

Dermatology Matters operate out of 2 locations, Suite 6 Blackrock clinic and University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, Clane (UPMC). Dr. Callaghan Condon MD, Consultant Dermatologist, is the lead clinician and has been in practice at Blackrock Clinic since 1997 and he is supported by highly trained  Dermatology Nurse Practitioners, Elaine, Lian, Tanya, Vivienne and Physicians Associate, Sandy.

These dedicated professionals are supported by a fantastic team of administrative and support staff in Blackrock Dee, Dorothy, Felicity, Karen, Jennifer and Lynn & Maura in Clane.

We at Dermatology Matters focus on providing the optimal treatment of and care for your skin. For patients with skin disease this involves accurate diagnosis combined with the most appropriate medical, surgical, laser or other therapy. We have invested in the most advanced diagnostic equipment including total body photography, Dermoscopic imaging of lesions, pathology, blood tests, allergy testing, surgery and the full spectrum of diagnostic services provided by the Blackrock Clinic and UPMC.

Dr. Cal Condon

Dr. Condon first studied at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Dublin and then became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

He continued on to the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute in the USA and was awarded an MD form UCD for research on genetically immunising against melanoma by demonstrating the effect in mice.

He was awarded a fellowship in skin and laser surgery at the New Orleans Oschner Clinic and later moved to the UK a senior registrar in Bristol Royal Infirmary.

After returning to Ireland in 1997, he worked for approximately three years in The Adelaide and Tallaght Hospitals before going into private practice.

Elaine Power

Elaine is the longest serving member of Dr. Condon’s nurse practitioner team. Elaine graduated RGN from Waterford regional hospital and has over 25 years’ experience both in Ireland and Australia. Elaine is highly skilled in all aspects of dermatology and has been the driving force behind the Laser therapy unit and the skin cancer early detection and prevention units run by Dermatology Matters. Her approach is to guide patients on their journey to skin health through nutritional advice, skin care, protection and the restoration of damaged, aged or diseased skin utilizing light, Laser and injectable therapies tailored to individual needs.

Vivienne Stewart RGN

Vivienne has worked alongside Dr Condon for over 15 years. Having graduated from St. Vincents University Hospital she has over 30 years’ experience working in Canada and Ireland. For the past 15 years she has specialised in Dermatology with a specific interest in skin cancer prevention, having recently developed a protocol on skin cancer prevention at DCU as part of a post graduate study module. Vivienne is a highly skilled practitioner specialising in mole mapping screening, laser treatments, aesthetic medicine, and acne management. She leads the dermatology clinic for Dr Condon at UPMC Kildare Hospital in Clane.

Lian Cormican

Lian is qualified as an RGN from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and has extensive experience in the UK, Australia and Ireland. Lian is involved in and has extensive experience in all aspects of skin care be it medical, surgical or cosmetic. Her particular area of interest is the early detection and prevention of skin cancer. Lian runs Dr. Condon’s screening program for melanoma and non-melanoma detection and is actively involved in cutting edge therapies to treat photo-damaged and precancerous skin lesions. Lian espouses skin protection and vigilance allied to cutting edge therapies to achieve exceptional results both in the appearance and the health of the skin.

Sandy Luc

Sandy is a Physician Associate (PA) who completed the Master’s degree in PA Studies from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland in 2021 and has been working alongside Dr Condon and his team since then. PAs are healthcare professionals that study the medical model and aid in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients under the supervision of a consultant. Sandy has completed over 1,600 hours of clinical training in a number of hospitals including Beaumont Hospital, the Bon Secours Hospital Glasnevin and UPMC Clane. Sandy has a keen interest in medical dermatology particularly acne, rosacea and early detection and prevention of skin cancers and melanomas. She strongly believes in preventative medicine and looks forward to raising awareness with her patients about the importance of skincare and how effectively we can look after our skin both in the clinic and at home.

Tanya Hetherington

Tanya is a Registered General Nurse having qualified at the Adelaide Hospital Dublin over 25 years ago. Tanya has worked in all areas of nursing primarily in Ireland and Australia. Before joining Dr Condon's team in January 2024, Tanya worked for 21 years at Tallaght University Hospital, as a General Nurse and in Phlebotomy. Tanya has a keen interest in all areas of both medical and aesthetic Dermatology especially our early detection skin screening program for Melanomas, our Acne Clinic and Laser treatments.
